There is an up-coming event for Portland Seniors and Boomers that will provide great information on positive aging along with interactive exhibits. At the PLAY event, you will also be able to try out and learn some new activities such as art, blogging, storytelling, and more.

At the beginning of the year, I started a “Coffee With Betty” series. Unfortunately, I only had one coffee meet-up before I became ill. I picked up all the pneumonia, whopping cough and respiratory infections that were going around. I was sick for 6 weeks. After that I continued to play catch-up with real estate. Only now am I getting back into the swing of things. As they say “Betty’s got her groove back”!

This next meet-up is scheduled for May 9 at 3 p.m.

Discussion Points

As indicated in my introduction to this monthly meeting, I cannot answer any questions if:

1) you currently have your home listed with another agent/brokerage

2) have signed a buyer’s broker agreement

3) you are in a current transaction to purchase property

If there are any real estate issues you’d like to discuss with me, I’d be happy to do so. If I don’t know the answers, I will direct you to the proper sources.

Depending upon attendance, these meetings will be held once a month. If it starts becoming crowded (which I hope) there will be more than one a month scheduled at some later point.

A few weeks ago, I wrote about the City of Portland’s plan for aging and here’s a link to that post.

Now ORCA Planning, the City of Portland Bureau of Planning & Sustainability, and PSU’s Institute on Aging are having a couple of workshops to hear from seniors and boomers about living in Portland as they age.

I have RSVP’d for the workshop on April 11. Unfortunately I can’t make it to the westside workshop which would have been more convenient for me.

A Vision For An Age Friendly Portland

A Vision for an Age Friendly Portland

A significant percentage of Americans are reaching the age of 65 soon. This fact has caused many cities to evaluate how prepared they are to accommodate this increase in an aging population. Portland is one of these cities. Portland wants to be accommodating for all ages and abilities, including those who are 65 and over.

Orca Planning is a group of graduate planning students from Portland State University working on an Age-Friendly Plan for the City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability that could influence City decisions through 2035.

Age friendly is usually defined as a place that “encourages active aging by optimizing opportunities for health, participation and security in order to enhance quality of life as people age. An age-friendly city is one that adapts its structures and services to be accessible to and inclusive of older people with varying needs and capacities.”

Voice Your Opinion On What Portland Should Look Like For Seniors And Boomers

City of Portland together with PSU giving boomers/seniors a chance to listen and offer ideas of how Portland can move forward with developing friendly senior living options on Wednesday March 7th at 11AM – 12:30 PM at Hollywood Library 41st and Tillamook.

Since it is only January , I will be scheduling one a month until I see how the meet-ups are attended.

First Wednesday Meet Up

The first meet up will be January 11 from 3-4 p.m. at the Starbucks located at 15645 Boones Ferry Road, Lake Oswego. It is on the corner of Boones Ferry Road and Douglas Way where the old KFC once was. The phone number there is 503-635-2266.
